stars in Hindi Film Industry in 90s, recipient of 6 Filmfare Awards and India’s
fourth highest civilian honour - the Padma Shri… Sridevi born Shree Amma Yanger
Ayyapan, was not just an actress par excellence, she was an era unto herself.
An era that came to an end this morning with her sudden and untimely
death in Dubai.
Himmatwaala Poster
The legendary actress starred in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu,
Malayalam and Kannada films. She was applauded for her debut leading role in
Solva Sawan (1979) but it was in 1983 that Sridevi announced that she was here
to stay with Himmatwala.
Sridevi And Shabana Azmi
She acted opposite Kamal Hassan in the critically
acclaimed Sadma the same year. Sridevi got her first Filmfare nomination for
the role, but she lost to Shabana Azmi who had delivered a powerful performance
in Arth that year.
While she enjoyed critical acclaim and recognition in the
80s, she had to wait till early 90s to break into the big awards league.

Sridevi bagged her first Filmfare Best Actress Award
in 1990 for ChaalBaaz, where she played a double role. Directed by Pankaj
Parashar, the movie was a remake of the 1973 superhit Seeta Aur Geeta, starring
Hema Malini.

Sridevi was also nominated for Filmfare Best Actor Award
for her film Chandni, the same year. She was the only actress to have two
Filmfare nominations for the top honour in 1990.
lLamhe Poster
Sridevi didn’t have to wait long to bag her second
Filmfare award. In 1992 she bagged the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her film
Lamhe, where she acted alongside Anil Kapoor, who would later go on to be her
brother-in-law.
There were a slew of nominations post this recognition.
Sridevi went on to act in one blockbuster after the other and with each, she
bagged a Filmfare nomination, but unfortunately, no award…

She took a 15-year hiatus beginning Judaai, but returned
in 2012 with the blockbuster English Vinglish, directed by Gauri Shinde.
She bagged the following awards for her scorching
comeback…

Entertaining Actor in a Social – Drama Film (Female)
2013: Stardust Award for Best Actress In A Drama
She also bagged a Filmfare Special Award in 2013. The
actress was recognised at the awards night for her performance
in Nagina and Mr. India.
Sridevi Receiving Padma Shri
The same year she was awarded with the Padma
Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award from the Government of
India
All eyes were on Sridevi now, she had the nation hooked
with her stellar act in English Vinglish and her fans couldn’t wait to see her
again on the big screen.
Mom Poster
Next came Mom in 2017. Sridevi bagged the Zee Cine Best
Actress Award for the movie. However, little did anyone know that Mom would
turn out to be her last date with the silver screen.
